SNVS — National Health Surveillance System
BR-unique
The SNVS (Sistema Nacional de Vigilância Sanitária) is a uniquely Brazilian coordinated system integrating federal, state and municipal health surveillance. No direct parallel exists in AU, EU, US, SG, or CA frameworks.
How SNVS operates for medical devices
| Level | Body | Key activities |
|---|---|---|
| Federal | ANVISA | National policy, product registration, AFE grants, import surveillance at ports of entry |
| State | VISA estadual | State GMP inspections, regional market surveillance |
| Municipal | VISA municipal | Local operating licences, inspections of distribution and retail premises |
NOTIVISA — the surveillance reporting hub
NOTIVISA is the national adverse event and technical complaint reporting system. Manufacturers, importers, distributors, and healthcare facilities are obligated to report adverse events via serious NOTIVISA within stipulated timeframes — typically within 2 business days for deaths or serious injuries, and within 30 days for other adverse events. See NOTIVISA for details.
