Industry Associations — SBCTA / ABIMO

Several industry associations represent the medical device and IVD sector in Brazil, engaging with ANVISA on regulatory matters and providing resources for industry.

Key associations

ABIMO — Associação Brasileira da Indústria de Artigos e Equipamentos Médicos e Odontológicos

ABIMO is the primary trade association for Brazilian medical device and dental equipment manufacturers. Key activities:

  • Participates in ANVISA public consultations on draft regulations;
  • Provides regulatory training and guidance for member companies;
  • Represents Brazilian industry in IMDRF, ISO, and MERCOSUL technical committees; and
  • Publishes regulatory updates and guidance for members.

SBCTA (Sociedade Brasileira de Ciência e Tecnologia de Alimentos) is a food science association and is not a primary representative for medical device manufacturers. Sector-specific medical device associations include ABIIS and ABRIFIBRA for IVD and clinical research support.

Various other sector-specific associations represent IVD manufacturers, radiation equipment companies, and healthcare technology providers.

SINDIMED — Sindicato Nacional da Indústria de Produtos para Saúde

SINDIMED represents the interests of the medical device industry in labour and industrial policy matters.
